Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Plantae Division: Magnoliophyta Class: Liliopsida Order: Arecales Family: Arecaceae The Palm Family(Arecaceae or Palmae) Uses: Palms are very economically important for their coconut products, oils, dates, palm syrup, ivory nuts, carnauba wax, heart of palm, rattan cane, raffia and palm wood. They are also ornamentally used in many places as well. The Palm Family is comprised of about 200 genera and roughly 2,500 species. Most Palms are restricted to Tropical and temperate climates but their range goes from rainforest to deserts. Lodoiceamaldivicaor better known as the Coco de Mer.
