  4. Perambulatory Clauses • Describes the background information • Draws on old documents/prior resolutions • Discusses old actions/solutions/outcomes • Reflects general opinions • States facts and figures

  5. Perambulatory Clauses • Alarmed by • Having adopted • Noting with approval • Confident • Emphasizing • Seeking • Reaffirming • Further recalling

  6. Operative Clauses • Offers new solutions for topics • Advises particular actions • Provides recommendations to the Security Council • Gives general recommendations

  7. Operative Clauses • Accepts • Notes • Reaffirms • Regrets • Designates • Considers • Supports • Further proclaims

  8. The beginning of a resolution… Committee: General Assembly Issue: Nuclear Weapons Proliferation Submitters: United States, United Kingdom, Japan, France, Spain • Start off with your committee name followed by a comma (,) • “The General Assembly,”….

  9. The basics • Start with perambulatory clauses and end each phrase with a comma (,) and italicize the first word • Italicize the first word in EVERY phrase and number each clause • For operative clauses you end each phrase with a semi-colon (;) except for the last phrase which ends with a period (.)
