  1. Prayer • Purpose • Preparation • Perseverance

  2. Nehemiah 1:3-4, 6, 11 • They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”

  3. When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven “…confessing [our] sins…O Lord…make your servant successful…and grant him compassion…”

  4. 2:4-5 – Then [four months later] the king said to me, “What is it you want?” Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered, “If it pleases the king…”

  5. Rebuilding the Walls • Examination - …by night [he] examined the wall. • Cooperation – “Let us start rebuilding.” • Opposition – They plotted…against Jerusalem.

  6. Rebuilding the Walls • Discouragement – Strength is giving out …so much rubble we cannot rebuild. • Support – From that day on, half…did the work, while the other half [guarded].

  7. Prayer aligns us with a purpose larger than ourselves.

  8. Connect… Disciple… Serve
