  1. The Struggle for Freedom By: Lynn Mull And Savannah Green

  2. Underground Railroad • Do a lot of slaves choose to run away? Most slaves chose not to run away. Historians estimate that only a fraction fled slavery. Millions more lived in bondage, where they fought slavery in subtle ways: work slowdowns, sabotage, and “sickness.”

  3. Underground Railroad • During  the underground rail road, did Harriett Tubman loose any passengers? No she always kept up with her passengers.

  4. Underground Railroad • Is it true that you can follow the north star to get to freedom? And if so where? Yes and if you followed the North Star you would end up in Canada where you would be free.

  5. Underground Railroad • What’s it like when you are going through a place called Delaware? a Quaker businessman named Thomas Garrett, smiles gently and promises you’ll see much bigger cities before you reach Canada.

  6. Underground Railroad • If you come to a white mans house that has a lantern would you trust them to knock and let them bring you in and help you to freedom? Yes because if it has a lantern then it is safe and if it don't you wouldn't bother to see if they would help because they would report you.

  7. Underground Railroad • When you enter the house would it give you a warm welcome and warm food? A warm welcome and hot food—that’s what you find inside the house. Guided by their conscience, the owners break the law by helping runaways. Yet terror still haunts you. As you fall asleep you hear bloodhounds not far away. They are looking for fugitives, looking for you. Freedom is still a long way off.

  8. Underground Railroad • Does the safe house break the law by helping the runaways? Yes and you are arrested and fined with at least $5,400

  9. Underground Railroad • How far away is freedom when you are at that safe house? A long time away.
