Why Increase Our Graduate Student Enrolment • Support our growth in areas of research strength, to which graduate students contribute • Help meet the growing need in Canadian society for Masters and PhD graduates in the academic, business and public sectors • Answer the increased demand for Masters’ programs to support entry to professional practice in a variety of programs

Coordinator, Graduate Student Recruitment and Retention Recruitment: • Strategies for attracting the best and brightest graduate students • Promotional materials, Events (Graduate Recruitment Open House), Web Site . . . Retention: • working with other departments on campus to maximize effort, time and resources and ensure that graduate students are aware of available support services • Develop new services/initiatives that support current graduate students. (career workshop, welcome packages)

  14. Where We Are Now • 42 Doctoral and 54 Masters programs • Current Full Time Graduate Enrolment is 3,428 • Masters 2,307 • Doctoral 1,121 • International Students 535… 15.6% • At the Doctoral level, internationalstudents make up 21.9%

  15. Draws and Challenges Draws: Excellent Research Facilities and Faculty, Beautiful Campus, Competitive Funding, Outstanding Student Support Services, Wide Variety of Programs. Challenges: Recruiting Top Students (particularly external award winners), Building an International Reputation, New Program Creation.

  16. What we are doing: Connecting students with services already available on campus. Developing new strategies and services to support students. Working with all programs to ensure that they are supported in their efforts to assist students. What we need to do: More research into reasons for withdrawal. Graduate Student Retention
