  2. ALICEMASARYK’S ORPHANAGE

  3. THE HISTORY The orphanage was established in the building of the former school which burnt down in 1847. Its original name was ‘The Orphanage of Emperor Francis Joseph I‘.

  4. THE ORPHANAGE IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY At the time of the First Republic the orphanage was called ’Alice Masaryk’s Orphanage’. In 1939 the orphanage was closed and the building was used for school purposes.

  5. THE ORPHANAGE AT THE TIME OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR At the time of the Second World War there was aGerman youth – Hitlerjugendcentre in the building. After the Second World Wara primary school was established there.

  6. NOWADAYS Today the orphanage building does not exist. It was taken down in the 1990s. There was a vacant lot which is now used as a car park.
