  2. *Born in 476 A.D., In kerala. *A renowned mathematician and astronomer of ancient india. *Studied at the University of Nalanda. *One major work was Aryabhatiya written in 499 A.D. *The book was based on astronomy,spherical trigonometry,arithmetic,algebra and plane trigonometry.   3. Aryabhatta • Pioneer to infer that the earth is spherical and rotates on its own axis,resulting in day and night.

Field of Mathematics: *Suggested a formula to calculate areas of triangles and circles. *First mathematician to give the table of the sines. *”Kuttaka Pulverise” method consisted of breaking problems down into new problems where coefficients became smaller and smaller with every step.   5. *Created method to find the highest common factor of a and b,also related to fractions. *Gave a table of sins to calculate the values at intervals of 90/24=3 degree 45' *Used a formula for sin (n+1) X-sin nx Sin nx and sin (n-1)x *Introduced Versine = 1 (Cosine) into trigonometry. Aryabhatta

  7. Johannes Kepler • Kepler's Law: Stated that planets move along ellipses. • He was one of the most important scientists ever. • Generalized Alhazen's Billiard problem, developed the notion of curvature.

  8. *First to notice the set of Platonic regular solids were incomplete when concave solids are admitted. *First to prove there are only 13 Archimedean solids. *Proved theorems of geometry. Johannes Kepler

  11. Johannes Kepler • Was a very religious man, found a way to credit God for every discovery he made. • Did not have a lot of money to support his family. • Lived in poverty,and died in poverty. • Never knew fame or fortune.

Agnes Sime Baxter(Hill)1870-1917 • Enrolled in Dal housie University in 1887. • Courses of Study: Mathematics/Mathematical Physics. • Received Bachelors degree in 1891 • Received multiple awards on Graduation. • Sir William Young medal for highest standing in Mathematics and Mathematical Physics.

  13. Agnes Sime Baxter • Completed Masters degree in 1892 at Dal Housie University. • 1892-1894 Baxter held fellowship at Cornell University. In Newyork. • Completion of theses “Abelian Integrals” resume of neumann's • Became second Canadian women and fourth women on North American Continent to receive Ph.D. In mathematics.

  14. Agnes Sime Baxer • Born March 18,1870 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. • Family immigrated to Canada from Scotland. • Father- Robert Baxter, manager of Halifax Gas light Company.

Agnes Sime Baxter • Married Dr. Albert Ross Hill on August 20,1896. • Had two daughters • There were only 2 other women in class of 24 who were also studying second level mathematics. • Her performance at University was outstanding. • First women to graduate with honors. • Died on March 9,1917 in Columbia Missouri
