Terms of Reference • Use of cable and hybrid networks, primarily designed for television and sound programme delivery to the home, as integrated broadband networks also carry voice or other time critical services, video on demand, interactive services, etc. • Use of telecommunication systems for contribution, primary distribution and secondary distribution of television, sound programmes and similar data services. • Lead SG for: • Integrated broadband cable and television networks

Future Work • Refinement and enhancement of IPCablecom and IPCablecom 2 to optimize the architecture for wide-scale deployment • Enhancement of the next generation set-top box to support a new architecture which bundles various service platforms and assures cross-platform and multi-platform • Development of an appropriate platform architecture to provide advanced multimedia services such as tele-medicine, remote-learning, etc along with sound and TV program over IP networks • Application Programming Interfaces (API) for advanced content distribution services and for use in next generation set-top boxes • Development of IPTV related Recommendations aligned with IPTV-GSI effort • Measurement of the QoS and QoE (Experience) for TV transmission on contribution and distribution networks

Conclusion • Study Group 9 in the Study Period of 2005 -2008 was very productive and successful by developing more than 97 new/revised Recommendations • Proposed Questions for the new Study Period will bring about new Recommendations that are strongly required to meet the demand of new services

  13. Thank you! Dr Richard Green is President and CEO of CableLabs. He has over 20 years of experience in the communications industry. In 1999, Dr. Green received the Vanguard Award, the cable television industry's highest award, for his achievements in technological development.Before joining CableLabs, Dr. Green worked for three major television networks, PBS, CBS, and ABC. Prior to becoming president of CableLabs, he was Senior Vice President of broadcast operations and engineering at PBS. He has also managed ABC's Videotape Post-Production department and has done basic research in laser technology for the Hughes Aircraft Company. Dr. Green holds a Ph.D. in Astro-Physics from the University of Washington, an M.S. in Physics from the State University of New York in Albany, as well as a B.S. from Colorado College.
