Here are the core lessons for the PHASE 2/Unit 1 post test (Tentative Date is October 24.): • 8 parts of speech • Words that can be different parts of speech.  • Ex: “play” • 4 forms of nouns: singular, plural, singular possessive, and plural possessive • 3 cases of pronouns: subject, object, possessive • Fragments, run-ons, simple and compound sentences • Subject and predicate – simple, complete, and compound • This is largely the application portion of the test where students will be writing original sentences.  • Ex: Write a sentence with a singular noun as the simple subject of the sentence. • The test will be 2/3 identification and 1/3 application.

  9. Mini-quiz based on homework In the next slide are three sentences. On the half-sheet of paper, write down the entire sentence. Then identify the part of speech of the highlighted words in each sentence. You may abbreviate: noun = N verb = V adjective = ADJ

  12. Some clues—apply them to your quiz answers. The words “a”, “an, or “the” often come before nouns. Pronouns can take the place of nouns. The referee will view the block. He will view it.
