  1. It is time to be inspired by The Great Gatsby! We can’t really throw an extravagant party like Gatsby, but we can have a junk food feast! On Friday, you will need to bring in a store bought item of junk food, so that we can create our own feast! We will set up our feast, photograph the display, and then write our own description of the feast like Fitzgerald does at the beginning of chapter 3. We will go outside to eat and write. However, if you do not bring something to share, no eating for you!

  2. Step One: Put your junk food item on the table. Try to put large things (bag of chips) towards the back and smaller things (candy) towards the front. Step Two: If you would like to take a picture of the feast for future reference, you may. Then, take notes on the organization, spatial arrangement, colors, shapes, ingredients, etc. on display.

  3. Step Three: Let’s reread the beginning of Chapter 3, so we can see what we are trying to emulate… Step Four: Now, let’s go outside to eat and write. You will be using your notes (and picture if you took one) to write a description of the table just like Fitzgerald did at the beginning of chapter 3. Be creative (make up some metaphors—feel free to be a bit unrealistic if you want) and look back at our original for inspiration whenever needed.

  4. Your junk food feast description is due on Tuesday, January 29th!
