  2. Biography Born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy, Leonardo da Vinci was the love child of a landowner and a peasant girl. Raised by his father. Leonardo grew up in his father's home, and was exposed to Vinci's painting traditions. When he was 15 years old he became an apprentice at the renowned workshop of Andrea del Verrochio in Florence. Even as an apprentice Leonardo demonstrated incredible artistic talent.

Science and inventions *The areas of his scientific study included aeronautics, anatomy, astronomy, botany, cartography, civil engineering, chemistry, geology, geometry, hydrodynamics, mathematics, mechanical engineering, optics, physics, pyrotechnics and zoology. *While no one really newof his scientific studies has only become recognized in the last 150 years, he was, in his lifetime, employed for his engineering and skill of invention. *Many of his designs, such as the movable dikes to protect Venice from invasion, proved too costly or impractical. *Some of his smaller inventions entered the world of manufacturing. As an engineer, Leonardo conceived ideas vastly ahead of his own time, conceptually inventing a helicopter, a tank, the use of concentrated solar power and a calculator,. Facts *Leonardo da vinci studied aeronautics, anatomy, astronomy, botany, cartography, civil engineering, chemistry, geology, geometry, hydrodynamics, mathematics, mechanical engineering, optics, physics, pyrotechnics and zoology. *He was a excellent artist you may know him from the monalisa and last supper. *Leonardo never really attended school. However, he was taught to read and write at his father's house. Here, he was also given elementary school training in languages, geometry, and arithmetic.*Leonardo da Vinci was a vegetarian, and did not even drink milk in his life. *He was left-handed and always wrote in mirror handwriting, perhaps to guard his ideas from intellectual thieves.*Leonardo never married, neither did he have a romantic relationship with anybody. *It is said that Leonardo used to wear bright colors to make him look fresh. Pink was especially his favorite.*He was famous for his love for animals. Sources say that many times, he used to purchase caged animals and birds, in order to set them free.*Da Vinci is said to have left many of his paintings incomplete. Reportedly, he also destroyed a number of his own works.
