    1. Synergetic Classroom- Dr. C.M. Charles Jen Cassie Andrew Kyle Kelley

    2. What is it? Synergy is the name for what occurs when teachers release their own energy into the classroom and to their students and then get it back in return . There is a focus on: teacher charisma. positivism. building the classroom community through relationships and trust. meaningful lessons. emphasizing students interests. each student taking responsibility for themselves, their work and their actions. the classroom working together as a team toward common goals. having a good time in the process.

    3. As a result students will be motivated to learn. you will get out of the classroom what you put into it. a synergetic classroom will have little need for discipline! you will do away with teacher/student power struggles. teachers and students reap the benefits.

    4. In other words When the class is engaged and focused on enjoying the learning experience, there is no time left nor a desire to concoct plans to behave in an undesirable way. All students feelings, ideas, and interests are being taken into account. When they have a large part in building the classroom, they will be less likely to perform in ways that would undo their hard work.

    5. Now lets have some fun! Were going to break you into groups of 5 by counting off in 3s. At the stations weve set up, youll be learning more about the parts of Charles synergetic classroom theory. Group 1 will work with Andrew first on elevating class spirit and energy. Group 2 will start with Kelley and Jen and will learn about causes of student misbehavior. Kyle will be working with group 3 first on how to establish a discipline plan.

    6. Whats going to happen At each station, you will have 8 minutes to learn all you can about his theory and collect a different part of your beach fact sheet. When you hear the music begin it will be time to switch to the next station. In about 25 minutes we will come together as a class to discuss and use what youve learned.

    8. So what happens when students do misbehave? Be helpful and not confrontational. Work with the student to resolve the situation in a way where everyone is helped. Remind the student of the behaviors that are expected from him or her. Have the student tell you exactly why he or she is acting up. Get his or her input on how the issue can be resolved. Deal with and fix the cause of the misbehavior. If students are consistently talking to the students around them at inappropriate times, perhaps a seat change is in order. If there is a dispute have those involved decide on the reasons behind it and an appropriate resolution. What would you say to a student exhibiting behavior problems?

    9. Ways to approach the problem Is there a problem I can help you with? Can you help me understand why this is happening? I would like to help fix the problem. What would a responsible person do in this situation? What do you think would be the best thing to do? Would you like to try something different? Most importantly- Work with the students, not against them.

    10. Concept Cases / What would Charles do? Now youre going to get a chance to act out different situations and decide what you should do according to what youve learned today. Were going to give you an example by acting out the first case. When were through well ask you for input on how to resolve the issue. Now its your turn. We need 3 volunteers to play the parts of students for the the next 3 cases. When its your turn, youll act out the part of the student in the case according to what we have written on these note cards. After each student reads aloud his or her characteristics and acts accordingly its the job of the rest of the class to play the role of teacher and decide what Charles would advise in that situation.
