  4. New datatypes • Ecological Quality Ratio (EQR) based on benthic fauna (test data flow in 2009) • Biological community data? (zoobenthos, phytobenthos, phytoplankton, zooplankton, and fish community)

  5. Important messages to data submitters: • Use the data “funnel” that you find most convenient to use • If submitting oceanographic data to ICES provide those in a format that is easy to output from the national/regional database – don’t force the data into a specific template • Do not submit the same data into different data funnels – risk of duplication

Common errors and inconsistencies in data submissions – ranked according to severity • Concentration out of range – usually unit error • Dry Wet Ratio not given as a percentage but as a true ratio (e.g. < 1) • Basis not filled in – necessary for the recalculation in relation to different basis used • Sampling depth missing – crucial information in relation to oceanographic data • Latitude and longitude out of range – usually caused by swopping • Concentrations null (missing) – error or not measured? • Determinand names not according to code lists

Suggestion on how to improve submission of data • Use the data for assessments and indicators – “encourage” by displaying empty spots on the European map • Data digging – there is a loot of data out there to be picked up but it requires resources • Improved national/regional coordination and information
