  2. Do your students forget the parts of speech all came to me while teaching essay-revision writing. When it comes to parts of speech~don’t assume students have retained their knowledge regarding parts of speech.

  3. Let’s begin withnouns (et al) • Assign variousshadesof bluetonouns~ • Blue = Nouns • Turquoise = pronouns • Green= adjectives • Purple = prepositions • I couldn’t help but notice the azuresky today. • This system may sound elementary, but I think the colors help, and my ESL students (even those with Ph.D.s) have conveyed tome the same.

  4. Verbs andAdverbs • Assigning red to verbs emphasizes action. • By keeping adverbs in the same warm-color cluster, this graphicorganizerreinforces which parts of speech function within their respective clusters, or even families. Whichever term works! • Jessicacookssuperbly, so shedecided to openher own restaurant, Moo. • This list isn’t exhaustive, but what follows will give you an idea of how easy this lesson is to apply in either a computer lab setting using font colors, or with more traditional mediums. Since we’re not in a lab today, we’ll explore the traditional methods.
