  2. Title • We think that the title means that not many people had AIDs at the time that this was written.

  3. Paraphrase • It is a grandmother talking to her granddaughter. The grandmother thinks that AIDS will go away, but the granddaughter tells her that it won’t. The granddaughter uses past examples of horrible stuff.

  4. Connotation • Repetition: “For the drought was and is no more” “Smallpox is no more” It shows that horrible things have happened, but they in turn went away. New Words: Regressing: the act of going back to a previous place or state

  5. Connotation pg.2 • Simile: “It is like a thorn that pricks continuously/ Piercing the flesh, and not regressing.” “It is like the mamba/ Whose deathly strike/Paralyses the heart instantly.”

  6. Attitude Speaker: The speaker feels that AIDs is a huge problem that most people don’t know about and it will not go away, unlike drought or smallpox. Poet: The poet wants you to feel sad and happy that we don’t have many tragities here, like diease and drought, and just be happy for what we have.

  7. Shifts • The shift happens after……… “Not at all, Grandmother, Smallpox is no more.” **shift** “Listen old one, this one is like a fire That burns intently in the depths of h*ll”

  8. Title • Aids will not go away. It is not like other old tragedies. AIDs will not be fixed easily, and the effects will be devastating, and AIDs will live in infamy.

  9. Theme • We think the theme is that Aids is a serious disease, and people need to raise awareness, because Aids slowly kills you and your death is very painful.

  10. THE END We didn’t put a patient who had AIDS because the pictures were inappropriate, gruesome, and sad.
