  6. Commitment items - a new design • Requested: yearly dependent commitment items • year dependence will be activated per FM area • 3 models exist for year dependence • feedback wanted

Commitment items - model 1 • Commitment items are outside of the FM area • Analogue to FI / general ledger which has a chart of accounts FM works with a chart of commitment items • The FM chart of commitment items works with a hierarchy of commitment items. • Some attributes of commitment items are independent of the FM area and Fiscal year. These attributes are stored in the chart of commitment items. • Attributes which are stored in the chart of commitment items are: Financial transaction, Commitment item category, postable or summarization item, and the hierarchy relationship.

Model 1: Commitment items embedded in a chart of commitment items • Some attributes are inherited from the chart of commitment items (see previous slide), some can be defined per FM area and fiscal year. • It is possible to work with one chart of commitment items and to apply only a fraction of the commitment items of the chart to a FM area and fiscal year. There is no need to work with all commitment items of the chart. • The commitment items of the chart you apply per FM area and fiscal year can vary. • Steps: • 1. Define chart(s) of commitment items. • 2. Assign a chart of commitment items to FM area and fiscal year.

Commitment items - model 2 • Model 2: Commitment items are embedded in a hierarchy variant • There is a pool of commitment items. • The commitment items are year dependent. • Various attributes of the commitment items can be changed throughout the financial year. The hierarchy within a financial year is fixed. • You can create various hierarchies out of the pool of existing commitment items.

  15. Model 3: yearly dependent commitment items • Commitment items exist for one financial year within an FM area. • All attributes are year dependent. The hierarchy within a year is fixed. • Commitment item hierarchy can be copied from one financial year to the next financial year. • After copying the commitment item hierarchy, the hierarchy can be changed in the new year.
