California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) Headquarters - Oakland Regional office – Los Angeles Mission – • Elect Environmental Champions to state office • Hold them accountable w/annual scorecard • Convene over 70 environmental groups (representing over 1m. CA voters) through our “Green California” collaboration project

  3. CLCV Redistricting Goals • Inform 70 Conservation organizations about the Redistricting Commission process • Ensure that newly created districts reflect the communities of interest within California • Ensure that no group is disenfranchised

  4. CLCV Outreach To Date • Outreach to our 70 organizations will be forthcoming. • Actual steps will depend on future meetings.

  5. CLCV Outreach Efforts • Locations: The 70 environmental groups within CLCV’s Green CA project are engaged in almost every California County. • Languages: Primarily English & Spanish • Statewide Plan?: CLCV does NOT plan to submit a state-wide plan.

  6. CLCV Outreach Plans • CLCV’s Outreach plan will depend on future meetings.

  7. Suggestions for CRC Success Honor the two priority criteria:   1) The Federal Voting Rights Act 2) The principle of contiguous geographic areas …….to protect the all citizen rights and prevent gerrymandering.

  8. Consider natural features - that define many communities of interest. For example: • Watersheds • Air basins • Coastal zone regions Air quality, water quality & regional economies (e.g. coastal zone tourism, central valley agriculture), often define communities of common interest
