  11. Chapter 4Walk In Purity (17-32) • Not as the Gentiles walk (17-19) • Futility of their mind • Given over to licentiousness • As learned from Christ (20-32) • Heard, taught by Him and the truth which is in Him • Put off the old man, corrupt in its deceitful desires • Renewed in the spirit of one’s mind • Put on the new man (self) created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness

  12. Chapter 4Walk In Purity (17-32) • Not as the Gentiles walk (17-19) • As learned from Christ (20-32) • Putting away the things of the old man: • Lying, but speaking the truth in love • Anger, giving no place to the devil • Stealing instead of working and giving to those in need • Corrupt speech, speaking with grace to edify those who hear • Grieving the Holy Spirit, by whom we were sealed for the day of redemption • All bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, evil speaking, all malice

  13. Chapter 4Walk In Purity • Instead be kind to one another • Tender-hearted • Forgiving • Just as God in Christ forgave us

  14. Justified • By grace – Titus 3:7 • By the blood of Christ – Rom. 5;9 • By belief/faith – Acts 13:39 and Rom. 5:1 • By works – Jas. 2:24 • Not by work (of merit) – Rom. 4:2; Gal. 2:16 • By obedience to the truth – 1 Pet. 1:22

  15. Facts: • We are all sinners deserving death (Rom. 3:23). • We can’t justify ourselves (Lk. 16:15). • God alone can justify us (Rom. 8:33). • - By the blood of Christ (Tit. 3:7) • It’s through obedient faith that we access this grace (1 Pet. 1:22). • We contact the blood of Jesus in water baptism (Gal. 3:26,27; Rom. 6:3.) • Only those who are justified have the promise of eternal life (Tit. 3:7).

  16. Justification is an act of God in which He declares an obedient believer to be righteous and acceptable before Him because Christ bore their sins on the cross and shed His blood for atonement.
