  4. 2004 TAMPERE GENERAL ASSEMBLY: MAIN DECISIONS 4 important changes in by-laws were made at the 2004 Tampere IUTOX General Assembly. • The Congresses of Toxicology in Developing Countries. (CTDCs) have been integrated into the IUTOX activities. • The Developing Countries Committee has been established as a Standing Committee. • Institutional Memberships has been established. • Past-President position in the Executive Committee has been abolished.

THE FIRST EC MEETING in TAMPERE: MAIN DECISIONS • Two Task Forces Have Been Established. *Task Force for Harmonization of the Certification/Registration of Toxicologists. *Task Force for the Enhancement of the Appreciation andImage of Toxicology. • Committees / Commissions Have Been Formed and Started Work on 2004-2007 IUTOX Strategic Plan.

Members: Robert Kroes (The Netherlands),Konrad Rydzynski (Poland), Linda Birnbaum (SOT), Maritza R. Martini (ALATOX), Tetsuo Satoh ( ASIATOX).

  9. 2004-2007 IUTOX STRATEGIC PLAN • The Following Were Taken into Account in the preparation of the Strategic Plan. * IUTOX Mission and Long Range Goals * Plans of the Committees /Commissions and Task Forces. * Strategic Plans of the Previous Terms. • The Strategic Plan Was Finalized in September 2004 and Announced on the IUTOX Web-site.

Capacity Building in Toxicology in Developing Countries - CTDCs • 6th Congress of Toxicology in Developing Countries (6th CTDC) successfully held in Croatia in 2006 as an integrated meeting with the 43rd Congress of the European Societies of Toxicology. • 7th CDTC will be held in Sun City, South Africa in 2009 and work regarding the organization of this congress has already started in cooperation with the South African Society.

Capacity Building in Toxicology in Developing Countries – Fellowship Program Fellowships; Support participation in the IUTOX congresses (ICT and CTDC) and the SOT meetings 83 junior and senior scientists from 29 developing countries: * 27 AstraZeneca-SOT Awards for 2005,2006, 2007 SOT meetings. *19 Fellowships for 2006 CTDC *37 fellowships for 2007 ICT XI

  25. ICTs The flagship of IUTOX is the ICT • IUTOX has worked in close cooperation with the Society of Toxicology Canada for the organization of the ICT XI Montreal 2007 Meeting. • Preparation for ICT XII Barcelona 2010 Meeting has already begun.

Risk Assessment Summer School (RASS) Risk Assessment Summer School (RASS) • Leadership of Torbjörn Malmfors (with assistance from Birgitta Lewander). • Biannually since 1985. • Annually since 2004. • 75 young postdoctoral toxicologists (2004-2007). • 31 participants from 19 nineteen developing countries have been fonded.

  28. Annual Budgetary Deficit is not Sustainable WHAT CAN WE DO? • Seek ways to obtain more revunues from ICT and CTDC congresses. • Recruiting many more institutional members. • Adjust IUTOX dues structure. • Reduce expenditures.
