  2. Today we will look at… • Applying for a CLIA Card • Cruise Counsellor Certification Course • Training Classes • Travel Trade Shows • Your Personnel Cruises • Speaking Ship Terminology

  3. Applying For A CLIA Card • HOW DO I GET IT • Enroll in a certification program • Produce a passing grade letter from a CLIA test • Good for 1 year • Apply after November 1st & the cost is $49

  4. Applying For A CLIA Card • WHAT WILL IT DO FOR ME • Discounts at some hotels, rental cars, & theme parks • You may need it on a cruise or seminar-at-sea • You may need it on a FAM Trip

Certification Courses • Prerequisites • Must be a CLIA Affiliated Agent • Mandatory Training - 30 Credits • Successful completion of 2 CLIA classroom or online courses & exams (15 credits each) -or- • Successful completion of The CLIA Guide to the Cruise Industry textbook and exam (30 credits)

Certification Courses • Any Combination of Elective Training - 50 Credits • Successful completion of other CLIA training seminars and exams (10 or 15 credits each) • Successful completion of CLIA video/DVD training and exams (10 credits each) • Attendance at CLIA co-sponsored/endorsed cruise conferences (10 credits per event) • *Completion of CLIA Institute Track at Cruise3Sixty (50 credits) or Trainingfest Fast-Track

Certification Courses • Successful completion of The CLIA Guide to the Cruise Industry textbook & exam (30 credits) • Attendance at member line product seminars (2 credits each, maximum 10 credits) • Successful completion of member line approved online seminars (5 credits each, maximum 15 credits) • Achievement of the Travel Institute's CTC or CTA designation (10 credits) • Achievement of CITC's CTC or CTM designation (10 credits)

Certification Courses • Product Knowledge - CLIA Member Cruise Lines only - 20 Credits • Must complete all items: Personal cruise experience: one cruise of 2-6 days, one cruise of 7+ days, both on different CLIA member cruise lines • Five shipboard inspections (may be same Member line but must be on different ships) • 25 staterooms booked/deposited through a currently affiliated Travel Agency within your two year enrollment period

  10. Training Courses • Princess & Cunard (pronounced Q-nard) • There are four levels to complete: • First Officer • Staff Captain • Captain • Commodore

  11. Training Courses • Princess & Cunard (pronounced Q-nard) • Each level has 4 – 8 courses to complete. • You will receive a letter, a lapel pin, and certificate after each rank achieved. • You will be awarded a graduation cruise upon making Commodore.

  12. Training Courses • Seminar-At-Sea • All classes are held on the ship during sea days. • Most prices include taxes, fees, charges, gratuities. • Best way to cruise and learn. • Get to know the product you are sailing on. • Could be used as a ship inspection or a personnel cruise.

  13. Certifications • Cruise Counsellor Certification Program • ACC – Accredited Cruise Counsellor • MCC – Master Cruise Counsellor • ECC – Elite Cruise Counsellor • ECCS – Elite Cruise Counsellor Scholar • LCS – Luxury Cruise Specialist • ACM – Accredited Cruise Manager

  14. Certifications • No renewal fee – good for life • Need this to get your CLIA Card each year • Attach to your signature block on your stationary • Go as far as you want to go in the Counsellor Program

  15. Certifications • Cost to enroll: • $40 for Luxury Cruise Specialist (5 years to complete) • $70 for ACC, MCC, ECC, ECCS, & ACM (2 years to complete)

Travel Trade Shows • Cruise 3 Sixty • Best Travel Trade show you can ever attend & learn from • Lots of ships to inspect & CLIA classes to attend • Numerous vendors from cruise lines to hotels to islands and countries to cities • Product Training • Held in Ft. Lauderdale, FL (yearly) & Vancouver, Canada (Every 2 years)

  17. Travel Trade Shows • Cruise 3 Sixty • Gives you about 80% requirements for your ACC, MCC, ECC, ECCS, ACM & LCS • Opportunities for FAM Trips • Talk with vendors one-on-one • Teaches you how to generate business & clients • Classes and general sessions

  18. Travel Trade Shows • Cruise 3 Sixty • Travel show last 5-6 days • Lots of items from vendors • Cost $125 to $149 and worth the time and money • Includes some meals • Registration opens early • Enroll in the “Fast Track Institute” for free

  19. Your Personnel Cruise • Why Do I Need To Cruise? – For your clients! • The Experience – If you’ve never cruised you will be amazed!!! • You need to be able to tell your clients all about it. • Helps you “sail”your clients. • Know the difference between the cruise lines.

  20. Your Personnel Cruise • Why Do I Need To Cruise? – For your certifications! • You need to experience a 5day or less & a 7 day or more. • You need it to achieve your ACC, MCC, ECC, or ECCS. • Know what to say when asked by your clients. • Keep your cruise memorabilia.

SHIP TERMINOLOGY • Aft – the back of the ship • Bridge – where the captain and staff controls the ship • Berth – A bed; also where the ship ties up • Cabin – where you sleep; also called a stateroom • Course – the direction the ship is headed in • Disembark – to get off the ship • Dock – the act of parking the ship at the pier • Embark – to get on the ship

SHIP TERMINOLOGY • Fore – the front of the ship • Forward - toward the front of the ship • Length – the distance from the extreme front to the extreme rear of the ship • Midship – in or toward the middle of the ship • Muster – to assemble the passengers and/or crew • Pitch – the up & down rolling of the ship • Port side – the left side of the ship (when facing the front)

  23. SHIP TERMINOLOGY • Roll – side to side motion of the ship • Starboard – right side of the ship (when facing the front) • Stern – the back of the ship • Tender – a small boat you take to get from the cruise ship to the shore
