Agri Business Trade Fairs • Initially developed as a forum in which farmers and financial institutions and banks would do “deals” • Evolved into a Market Place with other exhibitors following recommendations from banks • APF and KLPA partnered in running two fairs in Nyahururu & Karatina • Scope Insight supported Nyahururu Fair

What We Aim to Achieve Farmers • Increase the number of farmers accessing financial services & credit • Increase the information that farmers have on finance, inputs, technologies & BDS • Support farmers in establishing & running profitable agri businesses Banks • Increase the “deals” and business transactions between banks and farmers • Increase the level of business between input suppliers, technology providers, processors, BDS providers and farmers • Make small holder agri business a profitable business proposition for banks and other suppliers

The “Financial District” • “To support the development of smallholder agri-business by supporting access to financial services and credit”. • Give farmers a mechanism to learn about various financial products & service on offer • Give banks/FI’s the opportunity to sell their products & services to farmers • Provide farmers & banks with a platform for deal making • Enable farmers and banks increase the volume of profitable business between them

The Market Place • Market Place • Exhibition Area • Business Clinics • Activities include: • Promotion • Information Provision • Consultation & Advice • Buying & Selling • Networking • The market place is a dynamic place where products and services are promoted, sold and bought. Farmers will get the opportunity to interact with various input, technology and service providers

Award Scheme • Farmers vote for winners • Includes winners and runners up category in the following categories: • Most Popular Farmers Bank • Most Innovative Agri Business Loan Product • Most Innovative Technology • Best Agri Business Support Organization • Best Stand: Agri Business Trade Fair

Mini-Forums Used to provide training & information on particular topics Run by some exhibitors 25 -30 chairs provided in a sitting arrangement at the tent Forum starts with presentations Followed by question and answer sessions Range from 20-70 participants depending on the subject Open Forums Used by organisations to make presentations to larger audience Includes question and answer sessions Sometimes capitalises on a panel of financial organisations Now evolved to include entertainment/raffle Has 200-1,000 participants Run by APF and KLPA The Forums

NyahururuAgri Business Trade • Attended by 16,278 Farmers • 107 official exhibitors • Exhibitors included banks, financial institutions, insurance agencies, feed producers, agro chemical companies, seed suppliers, soil testing companies, aquaculture businesses, NGOs, Government agencies, training institutions, processors etc • 15 Mini-forums: 8,000 people participated • 1 Open Forum: 600 people participated • Awards • Most Popular Farmers Bank - Equity Bank • Most Innovative Agri Business Loan Product: KilimoBiashara - Equity Bank • Most Innovative Technology:Petreshah General Supplies Ltd – (Egg incubators) • Best Agri Business Support Organization: Winner: Elgon Kenya Ltd • Best Stand: Agri Business Trade Fair: Winner: Kenya Meat Commission (KMC)
