WVBOD Functions #1 Protect the Public • Propose rules to govern the practice of dentistry and dental hygiene that must receive Legislative approval after a designated public comment period. • Issue and regulate dental and dental hygiene licenses. • All actions are with protection of the public in mind.

  5. Board Make Up Six Dentists One Dental Hygienist One Certified Dental Assistant One Citizen Member Governor appointed for 5 year terms. May serve 2 consecutive terms and be off the Board for one year to be eligible to serve additional terms.

  17. Workforce Survey DDS-53%, DH-57% • 37% of dentists in West Virginia plan to retire in the next ten years. • According to the West Virginia University School of Dentistry, only 12.5% of the 2011 graduates remained in West Virginia upon graduation, compared to 27.5% in 2010 and 42% in 2009.

  18. 22% DH said that they were looking but could not find full-time employment 15% DH were looking but could not find part-time employment.
