  2. 2008 ESMD SG Faculty Cohorts • 34 applicants: Representing 18 SGC; 56% MSI • 10 selected (AL, CA, GA, DC, MS, NC, NM, OH, UT, VA)- 50% MSI • Tenure at Centers: June 2- July 2; KSC July 14-17 • All 10 will attend a SG Regional and give presentation • Objectives: • Confirmation of existing internships & senior design project • Locating related published research for SD projects • KSC will pay stipends; each center will handle logistics • (badging, info on housing, computers, etc.) • Reviewing senior design courses developed by AU & MTU

ESMD Senior Design Course Development Auburn University: Dr. Dan Beale & Dr. David Harris Concepts for Lunar Regolith excavation equipment and propose solutions in the form of completed designs and prototypes. NASA POC - Robert Muller of KSC Michigan Technological University: Dr. John Gershenson High-risk, low cost development projects like those common to the Small Space Craft Program. While this will be based on a particular project, the curriculum will not be tied to only that project. NASA POC is Dr. Butler Hine of ARC Working with ESMD 2008 Summer Faculty Presenting in Atlanta at National Conference Workshop in DC 2009 (day before? after?)

Student Intern Application for NASA • Summer Internship • Total of applications received – 103 • Applications that met minimum requirements – 84 • Mar 14 SG will make offers to students • Mar 20 need to know if the students accept or decline • Fall Internships • Application deadline – May 1, 2008 • Process flowchart instructions on the KSC Education website • Let us know if you will not be funding students for NASA Internship through this site

Systems Engineering Paper Competition • Students submit a Systems Engineering Paper to be evaluated by NASA judges • Judged by NASA judges • First prize: $3500 scholarship and VIP Shuttle launch seating • Second prize: $2500 scholarship and VIP Shuttle launch seating • Third prize: $1500 scholarship and VIP Shuttle launch seating Deadlines: • Paper submission March 3, 2008 • 13 teams have signed up as of Feb 28 • Award ceremony mid April

  7. Mid-Term Status Reports Reporting thru Mar 30 2008 Due by April 14 NASA HQ will not release 2008/2009 ESMD funds until you have completed the status report showing adequate progress 2006/2007money may be used until Sep 30 08 2007/2008 money may be used until Sep 30 09
