  1. Nelson Mandela Mandela was born on 18 July 1918, Qunu, South Africa. He died on 5 December 2013, Johannesburg, South Africa. Son of a chief, Nelson Mandela studied law and became one of South Africa's first black lawyers.   Early in the 1950s he was elected leader of the youth wing of the ANC (African National Congress) .

  2. WHAT IT FELT LIKE IN PRISON • From 1964 to 1982 he was in jail for standing up for his beliefs. • That meant he was in prison for 27 years of his life. • He felt like it was really unfair that the black African's could not do certain things. • President Frederik Willem de Klerk freed Nelson from prison.

  3. Life for the poor • The life for the poor was being a slave for your whole life. • Sometimes the slaves could see the rich having so much money to spend. • If you had a different skin you would get as much a year as the white got as much a week • The rich could get their own football pitches

  4. Facts • Mandela left 4million to his family when he died. • Mandela was the first black president of South Africa. •  In prison, he was highly skilled at secretly passing notes.

  5. The A.N.C • The A.N.C stands for African National Congress. • Mandela was the leader of the A.N.C. • The A.N.C tried to convince the government to change the rules about the black and white • The A.N.C was founded in 1912 and still continues today.

  6. Facts •  The president offered Mandela his freedom if he would agree to stop protesting but Mandela declined the offer. •  He used sports to bring the racially divided country together. • There's now a global holiday in his honour. • He won more awards than anyone in history.

  7. More Facts •  He planned to bomb certain buildings. • If he bombed a building he would make sure no person would get hurt. • Nelson was a strong force in keeping the calm and preventing a major civil war.  • Nelson was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
