  1. ITUC Mission “It has been the historic role of trade unionism, and remains its mission, to better the conditions of work and life of working women and men and their families, and to strive for human rights, social justice, gender equality, peace, freedom and democracy. More than ever in its history, confronted by unbridled capitalist globalization, effective internationalism is essential to the future strength of trade unionism and its capacity to realize that mission. The Confederation calls on the workers of the world to unite in its ranks, to make of it the instrument needed to call forth a better future for them and for all humanity.” International Trade Union Confederation

  2. ITUC Overview The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) is the world's largest trade union federation. It was formed in November 2006 out of the merger of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) and the World Confederation of Labour (WCL). The Founding Congress of the ITUC was held in Vienna and was preceded by the dissolution congresses of both the ICFTU and the WCL. The ITUC comprises the affiliated organizations of the former ICFTU and WCL together with eight other national trade union organizations that will for, the first time, affiliate to a global body. These groups are expected to include the Confédération générale du travail in France and the Argentine Workers' Center. The World Federation of Trade Unions, will remain independent. The ITUC represents 166 million workers through its 309 affiliated organizations within 156 countries and territories. International Trade Union Confederation
