  2. Purpose To introduce future Army officers to developing technology and its likely effects on future combat operations.

The Technology • Nothing moves but the projectile • Electronically controlled • Alternating rounds and propellant charges are factory packed into tubes • An electrical fire control system controls the primers that actuate the propellant charges • The tip of each projectile seals the tube upon firing of the preceding round

  5. Combat Applications • Simplicity of design allows for high level of versatility • among applications • within the same application • Potential uses include: • Vehicle/ship self defense • Armed unmanned vehicles • Anti-missile systems • Bio/Chem cloud neutralization • Area denial systems

  6. Current Level of Development • There are two projects that could see field testing within the next couple years: • Four-barrel EGL (Electronic Grenade Launcher) incorporated with the Talon unmanned vehicle • Four-barrel EGL incorporated with the Dragonfly DP-4X UCAV

  7. Other recent developments of interest: • Development of 40mm flash bang round • Development of 40mm shoulder fired EGL • 40mm cartridge reload system

  8. Summary • Metal Storm ballistics technology can out perform many current small arms in certain applications • The versatility of MS technology results in effective offensive and defensive applications • Due to the success of the MS project to date, upcoming Army officers can expect to come in contact with this technology at some point in their career
