Language Diffusion and Creation • How does language move to new places? - Business (Swahili – business language between Arabic speakers and Bantu speaking tribes) - Migration (new language introduced) – colonization in North America, immigration • Language has regional differences - dialect (Louisiana Creole, southern drawl, slang)

Cultural Expression • All cultures express themselves creatively • Performing Arts - music (rock, bachata, Arabesque) - plays, movies • Visual Arts - paintings, architecture, sculptures, textiles • Literal Arts - stories, tales, poetry • Cultural Expression allows a society to pass on the traditions, beliefs, and values of the society

  11. Cultural Tolerance/Intolerance • Resistance occurs with cultural change - new languages, religions, or customs - a society may feel threatened • Problems with cultural intolerance - isolation of a group - extermination of a culture or group, i.e. Nazis
