  2. Force • An interaction between two different objects that results in a push or a pull. • An object can’t exert a force on itself. • Examples of forces

  3. Friction • All friction is parallel to the surface the object is sliding on and opposite the direction of motion • Static friction, Ffs • When the object isn’t moving • Kinetic friction, Ffk • When the object is sliding

  4. Tension • The force is always co-linear with the string. • The tension is the same everywhere in the string. • A pulley simply changes the direction of the force.

  6. Normal force • The normal force is always perpendicular to the surface that’s causing it.

  7. Force Diagrams • Represent all the forces acting on the object using vectors • All forces are drawn from the object • Represent the object with a dot • Use “on-by” notation (on what? by what?)
