Cluttered desks make workers ill Millions of office workers are suffering from a new affliction if the results of a survey are to be believed. • Researchers at NEC-Mitsubishi say the nation's office workers are being hit by "Irritable Desk Syndrome". • They say long working hours, cluttered desks and poor posture are making many people ill. • Some 2,000 people were questioned as part of the survey. Of these, 67% said they are more tied to their desks than they were two years ago. • Around 40% said they were infuriated by too much clutter and paper on their desks but could not be bothered to do anything about it.

  14. Successful evaluation • Aims of the project complement the perception of partnership benefits • Top of the list were; • Networking • Source of ideas • Sharing and developing best practice • Improved standard of health and safety

  16. Successful evaluation 3 • Partnership members identified several beneficial robust practical outcomes; • Website and e-library • Development of new sector health guidance LAC 94/1, STF’s • Sector specific training

  17. Successful evaluation 4 • A partnership comprising contact centres, stakeholders and regulators was seen as a ‘good practice model’ the learning from which could be transferred elsewhere • Few organisations would be prepared to pay towards the maintenance of NWCCP

Where next? • Desperately need funding to continue • Working with MCCF on the ‘getting people back to work agenda’ • Developing the ‘Emergency Services’ project • Working with Public Health Colleagues to secure funding for workplace health initiatives • Providing a consultation focus for regulatory issues • Delivering training packages on stress/stress management
