  1. Welcome to 2nd Grade! Mrs. Hensley

  2. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES DAILY FOLDER: Your child’s “Daily Folder” will travel between home and school on a daily basis. There will be occasions when notes or homework will come home in the daily folder. The folder will include a reading log that is to be signed regularly and a conduct calendar. The conduct calendar is included so that you can keep track of how well your child is doing with behavior and work expectations. If there is a behavior check given, please initial the calendar so that I know that you are aware. SADDLEBAGS: Every Thursday your child will bring their “Saddlebag” home with graded work, notes, and flyers. PLEASE review the contents, sign, and return the next day.

  3. HOMEWORK: Standard, weekly homework will be a required 20 minutes of reading each night Monday through Thursday. They can read from the reader that will be sent home, their library books, or any book that you may have as long as it is appropriate (I’ll leave that to your discretion). Also, different homework will be assigned on an as needed basis. These assignments will be due the following day unless noted otherwise. MAKE-UP WORK (due to absence): Students who have excused absences will have one school day for every one day missed to complete assignments.

  4. TARDIES/ATTENDANCE: School begins promptly at 8:00 AM. Students come to the classroom after the 7:50 bell rings. Habitual tardiness may result in disciplinary action, including the filing of truancy. Regular attendance is important to a student’s success in school. Lessons build upon the previous day’s learning. Please refer to the RISD handbook for more details. VISITORS/VOLUNTEERS: All those entering the school must check in at the front office and receive a sticker to wear (for safety reasons). The Parent Center is now open for business here at CLP. This is a great place to complete tasks for your child’s teacher while getting to know some other parents. DISMISSAL: If your child is going home a way that is different from usual, PLEASE let me know ahead of time. We are not to allow students to go home with people they don’t normally go home with if we do not have approval from home.

  5. STUDENT BEHAVIOR: My discipline plan involves students receiving checks on their conduct calendar card when bad choices have been made. The conduct grade is determined by the number of checks within the grading period as communicated on their calendar card. Good behavior/choices are rewarded with positive rewards that will vary throughout the year. SNACKS AND WATER BOTTLES: My students may keep a water bottle at their desk if it has a pop-up top. Studies have shown that children do better if they are hydrated. Also, they may bring a healthy, dry snack on a daily basis as long as it is not too messy or involved. Please do not send peanuts or peanut butter for snack time.
