Introduction Background: at the Treaties 1-11 gathering in 2008 Thunderchild First Nation agreed to further the work on the treaty right to health and to host a gathering • The Medicine Chest Gathering 2008 was held at the Thunderchild First Nation July 21 to 24, 2009 • To create a task force to implement our own indigenous health system • To exercise our sovereignty • To build an international lobby

Medicine Chest DeclarationSigned in July ,2008, at the Medicine Chest Gathering, Thunderchild First Nation • Representatives reaffirmed their commitments to implement the Chiefs of Canada declaration of First Nations right to nationhood and self governance and resolved to “revive and retain the spirit & intent of the Treaty Right to traditional and contemporary health services”

  16. 6.0 Current agreements • Medicine Chest Task Force and the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations • To enter into this mutually exclusive acceptable arrangement impacting on the task force on Indian control of Indian Health • To identify tasks that is complementary for implementation of the priorities for Indian control of Indian Health • That the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Health and Social Development Secretariat will provide support and assistance to the Tier II technical level • The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations will support the Treaty 6 Task Force Level 2 5. The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations will participate in the initiatives being promoted and implemented impacting on Health and Social Development 6. The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations will provide expertise to assist with components of the Task Force.

  17. 6.0 Current agreements… • Medicine Chest Task Force and the First Nations University of Canada “ the parties agree to enter into a partnership to conduct the research, planning and development of the various components of the Medicine Chest Task Force on Indian Control of Indian Health” and “ the parties agree to develop and submit joint funding submissions for funding of projects for the Task Force impacting Health, Social Development and the Environment.”
