  2. DUKE ENERGY WANTS TO BUILD A NEW 800 MEGAWATT COAL-FIRED POWER PLANT AT CLIFFSIDE, NC, 50 MILES WEST OF CHARLOTTE

  3. HOME DEPOT Home Depot is planting 300,000 trees in the US to help absorb carbon dioxide emissions. The CO2 emissions from the proposed new Cliffside plant, in just SIX DAYS of operations, would negate the entire effort.

  4. WAL-MART Wal-Mart is investing 1/2 billion dollars to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions of its existing buildings over the next seven years. If every Wal-Mart Supercenter met this target, the CO2 emissions from the proposed Cliffside plant, in less than THREE WEEKS of operation, would negate this entire effort.

  5. NORTH CAROLINA If every household in NC changed a 60-watt incandescent light bulb to a compact fluorescent, the CO2 emissions from the proposed Cliffside plant would, in 16 days of operation negate this entire effort.

  6. CALIFORNIA California passed legislation to cut CO2 emissions in new cars by 25% and in SUVs by 18%, starting in 2009. If every car and SUV sold in California in 2009 met these standards, the CO2 emissions from the proposed Cliffside plant would, in less than SIX MONTHS of operation each year, negate the entire effort.
