  4. Breakfast consisting of.... • rye bread • sliced sausage • butter, but that’s optional

  5. Lunch Pelmeni • Pastry dumpling typically filled with meatballs. • Can be served alone. • Could also be served slathered in butter and topped with sour cream. • Can also be served in a soup broth. --->

  7. Dinner Chicken Kyiv (Kiev) • Made from chicken breast, eggs, Japanese bread crumbs and much more! • Originally named Mikhailovska cutlet in France (1840s). • Renamed chicken Kiev in Moscow years after WWII.

  12. Traditions Cont. -It is polite to use bread to soak up gravy or sauce. -Men pour drinks for women seated next to them. -Leaving a small amount of food on your plate indicates that your hosts have provided ample hospitality. -It is improper to look into another person’s plate or saucer.

  13. New Year’s Cuisine The word sochevnik / solchenik derives from the word sochivo, a dish also known as kutya consisting of boiled wheat sweetened with honey. The meal begins only after the first star is spotted in the night sky, in remembrance of the Star of Bethlehem, which announced the impending birth of the Christ Child.
