  1. Shore Pollution By Chloe Cimino and Emily Morris

  2. The problem The problem is shore pollution. The dictionary definition for pollution is it is the presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance or thing that has harmful or poisonous effects, or undesirable state of the natural environment being contaminated with harmful substances as a consequence of human activities. All in all, we as humans are the cause of this problem, and one of the many locations affected by it is the shore.

  3. Heavily Affected Areas One of the most heavily affected area of shore pollution in the United States is California. They spend over 16.2 million dollars in beach clean up every year! This is enough money to feed 5,400 starving families in Africa for an entire year!

  4. Causes There are many causes of shore pollution due to human influence such as... • littering • oil spills • waste dumps • scraps of buildings from natural disasters • air pollution from factories • etc.

  5. Possible Outcomes • death or injury of wildlife • harm to humans who use the shore • contaminated water • decrease in seafood • decrease in fisherman employed • decrease in tourism • etc.

  6. Environmental Impact • Many animals will die • Because of animal death, the food chain would crumble • Different plants in the ocean and on the beach will die due to pollution • Coral reefs will be bleached and deteriorate from the pollution. This will destroy the habitat of various fish and other sea life

  7. Human Interference Connections • Littering • Trash Dumping • Air pollution • Liquid Waste Dumping

  8. How We Can Help Helping eliminate shore pollution is so EASY! • Throw your trash in the garbage • When you are near a body of water don't carry trash • When at the beach use reusable containers • DON'T DUMP YOUR TRASH IN THE OCEAN! • Pick up litter from the beach

  9. Impact on Biogeochemical Cycles • When animals die they can't complete their part of the carbon, nitrogen, or phosphorus cycle. • Pollution at the shore can be turned into noxious fumes or acid rain • When shoreline plants are killed by pollution they are unable to perform their role in the carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and water cycles

  10. Youtube Video on effects of shore pollution Another video on how pollution affects the shore The video about saving the sea turtles after they were becoming scarce
