  2. Roy Kelton Orbison Born April 23,1936 in Vernon, Texas. Second Child of Orbie Lee and Nadine Orbison. At age 6 Roy got his first guitar.

  3. First song he ever learned to play was “You are My Sunshine”. First song he wrote was “A Vow of Love”. 1945 Roy won a contest on KVWC in Vernon which led to his own radio show. Formed his first band at age 13 called The Wink Westerners.

  4. Roy went to college at North Texas State. April 16, 1955 at Big D Jamboree he saw Elvis Presley for the first time. College friend, Pat Boone urged him to experiment with pop-oriented songwriting.

  5. Major Influences: Johnny Cash Feb 26,1932 – Sept. 12,2003 Sent Roy to Sun Records. Pat Boone June 1, 1934 – Urged Roy to experiment with more pop-oriented song writing.
