  5. What is Work Based Learning (WBL)? NOT Counted Toward Pupil Membership: • Career Awareness • Field Trips • Guest Speakers • Career Fair • Career Exploration • Job Shadows • Information Interviews

  6. What is Work Based Learning (WBL)? CONTINUED Counted Toward Pupil Membership: • CTE State Approved CTE Programs • Paid/Unpaid • Paid or Unpaid In-District (Only Certain CIP Codes) • Non-CTE Programs • Paid/Unpaid • Special Education Programs • Paid/Unpaid • In-District/In-School Placements

Pupil Accounting Manual 2018-2019 Pupil Accounting Manual • Section 5-L Special Education Pupil Transition Services • A pupil receiving special education transition services related to WBL experiences, work activity center services or transition or community living experiences. • If generating FTE, must follow Section 5-L-2 thru 3 of the Pupil Accounting Manual. • Section 5-P Work Based Learning Experiences, Apprenticeships, and Internships • Coming Soon - MDE Companion Document

District Process • Pupil is eligible to receive credit toward a high school diploma or certificate of completion for the experience. • If the experience causes the pupil to recieve less than the number of instructional hours required to be considered full-time, the membership shall not be prorate. • Does not generate more than one-half of the pupil’s membership up to .5 FTE. • Written Training Agreement and Training Plan in place by Count Day. • Verify and maintain pupil’s attendance. • A pupil is allowed not more than 24 hours of work per week while is in session. MCL 409.111

  9. District Process NEW • May require a pupil engaging in an internship or work experience to complete a Reflection Project. The project may include, but is not limited to, all of the following: • A copy of the pupil’s Time Card from the internship or work experience • A resume that includes the internship or work experience • A written summary of the internship or work experience

  11. WBL Non-CTE Special Education • Must be directly related to the Postsecondary Transition Plan • A copy of the Transition Plan must be attached to the Training Agreement/Plan • MDE Guide

  15. Safety Training and Instruction • Safety instruction appropriate to placement has been provided by the district or placement. • MUST be documented on the Training Agreement/Plan.

  17. Michigan Youth Labor Laws • Child Labor Law Youth Employment in Michigan • Hazardous Occupations

  18. Paid or Unpaid Training • Cannot generate more than 50% of the student’s school time • Provide education benefit and an introduction of new skills

Site Visitation Non-CTE: Special Education • Certified District Special Education Teacher or District Appointed Employee • Vistations must occur at least once every 30-calendar days for a special education pupil • visit the pupil and the pupil’s site supervisor at the job site CTE & Non-CTE: General Education • WBL Certified Instructor, Coordinator, or District Appointed Employee • Visitations must occur at least once every 9 weeks • visit the pupil and the pupil’s site supervisor at the job site
