  1. December 11, 2012 Journal Write an imagery poem that describes the first thing that you saw when you woke up this morning. It needs to be at least 3 lines long. Since his plans went awry, he decided to become a vegetarian.

  2. Awry (adjective) • Away from the expected or proper direction; amiss; wrong

  3. Announcements/Reminders • Totally Ten due on December 19. • Vocabulary test is one week from today. • Writing conferences next Thursday and Friday.

  4. Prose • Ordinary language that people use in writing such as poetry, stories, editorials, books, etc.

  5. Free Verse • Rhymed or unrhymed lines that have no set fixed metrical pattern.

  6. Refrain • A phrase, line, or group of lines that is repeated throughout a poem, usually after each stanza.

  7. Slam! • What are you trying to say? • What do you want the audience to know about you? • What words do you like?
