What They Do • Records patients' medical information and vital signs. • Prepares rooms and sterile instruments, equipment and supplies, and ensures that the stock of supplies is maintained. • Prepares patients for, and assists with, examinations and treatments. • Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions. • Discusses cases with physicians. • Orders laboratory and diagnostic tests and evaluates results. • Directs and supervises less skilled nursing personnel. • Monitors all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity. • Maintains accurate, detailed reports and records.
