  1. Year 11 ~ 12 Transition Program2011-2012 Introduction & Overview

  2. Session 1: GUEST WRITER • As a whole year-level group, students will participate in a session with guest professional writer Archie Fusillo. Archie will present to the students about his writing career, giving useful advice and activities that help in improving student writing.

  3. Session 2: Writing Workshop • In large groups students will cover the information on the Writing in Context unit and begin their first practice Context Writing piece.

  4. SESSION 3: Course Overview & Oral presentation task • We’ll go over the course outline and expectations for Year 12 English in 2012. • Then we’ll introduce the oral presentation task and review oral presentation techniques, along with aspects of the issue itself.

  5. Session 4: planning research for orals • Students will create an individual list of research questions to develop their understanding of the issue and guide their research for the oral presentation. • Classes will have time in the library following the formulation of research questions.

  6. Session 5: research for oral presentations • Students will work in the library on research for their oral presentations. • Students should have decided on their persona, context, point of view, audience and arguments by the end of this session. • Students need to complete research and prepare a draft or detailed plan for the context of their speech (DUE Day 1, 2012).

  7. HOLIDAY HOMEWORK... • Continue work on the first SAC for next year; the Issues Oral Presentation: • Continue researching the issues topic by collecting and reading newspaper articles related to the issues we will be exploring. • Choose a narrowed topic for your oral presentation and develop a scenario for your topic that includes a persona, audience and setting. • Complete a draft or detailed plan for your oral to present to your teacher for feedback. • Read the novel “Year of Wonders” which will be our first text. Write brief chapter summaries of key events in the novel. • Complete the Context piece you started in transition. Each of these tasks will be due in your first English class of 2012.
