  2. What is a Thematic Essay? • It is an essay that has a common theme. • Tasks will be given to answer the essay. • One must focus on the task. • Each of the task items must be addressed in order to receive full credit.

  3. What is a Thematic Essay? • The writer must be extremely descriptive when writing the essay. • They should include the time period, people, vocabulary, places, etc.

  4. STEP 1: Pre-Writing • One should analyze the task and organize the information that they wish to include in the essay response. • First, carefully read the theme and the task. • Look for clues that will help identify the information required to thoroughly address both the theme and the task. • Underline those sections of the theme and task that you consider most important.

  5. What is an Introduction Paragraph? • The introduction to the essay response should communicate what it is that the essay will show or prove. • This introduces the theme or problem by establishing a framework that is beyond a simple restatement of the Task and concludes with a summation of the theme or problem.

  6. INTRODUCTION PARAGRAPH • Box Statement: Write this word for word from your paper. • Define the Theme: Include Who, What, Where, How, When Questions. • Include a Thesis Statement at the conclusion of the introduction. This tells the reader exactly what you are writing about.

  7. BODY PARAGRAPHS • This is where you answer the task. • Choose your Thematic Topic and apply the Basic Questions: Who, What, When, How, Where, Why. • Then try incorporate the BQ’s answering the first set of BQ’s. • Constantly incorporate details into all you BQ’s.

  8. BODY PARAGRAPHS • Once you create BQ’s answer the questions in paragraph form. • Do Not include the questions in you essay.

  9. CONCLUSION PARAGRAPH • Restate the thesis statement. • Summarize all body paragraphs based on the task. • Short and to the Point.

  10. Thematic Essay DO'S AND DO NOT'S • Write all necessary paragraphs • Include details • Basic Questions • Address all the tasks • Be prepared to write a lot! THE DO'S

  11. THE DO NOT'S • Personalize: • “In my essay I will be talking about ….. • “I believe that…” • “In conclusion I think …” • Be vague! • Forget to answer all the tasks. • Skip lines on the paper. • Just write the essay …..OUTLINE FIRST
