  1. GPA/RANK Before you re-evaluate your SHORT TERM GOALS for week 3 review the importance of GPA/Rank as part of your high school achievement.

  2. What do colleges look for? • One of most important factors taken into consideration for admission is based upon 3 years of academic courses, grades 9 – 11.

  3. What will YOUR transcript reflect by the end of 11th grade? • Challenging courses – College credit, Advanced Placement (AP)? • Students in a school with challenging courses are expected to have taken SOME of these courses. • Thriving in a challenging academic environment? • College counselors look for TRENDS • Consistency? • Upward or downward spiraling?

  4. How might your g.p.a. impact career/job opportunities, military ambitions? • Success in any branch of the Military depends on a good education, and a high school diploma is most desirable. Candidates with a GED (General Education Development certificate) can enlist, but some Services may limit opportunities. It is very difficult to be considered a serious candidate without either a high school diploma. • Pilots? Navy Seals? Officer school? Career military ambitions? Candidates are top tier with solid educational background. • Careers? Many coveted positions are awarded to those who show high achievement and strong academic ranking through high school and college.

  5. Discuss: What can I do to boost my g.p.a and to work toward a consistent upward trend? How do I get there?

  6. Guidelines: • You are permitted to REDO an assignment if you have received a failing grade. • Be proactive in obtaining and completing make-up work. It is your responsibility. • If you have not demonstrated mastery on a test, you have 3 days from the return of the graded test to request a retake for grade up to 70%. • Be aware of how your class grades are weighted. • Seek out individual help: academic mentoring will be provided each Friday, and tutorials T/Th 2:15-2:45. • Communicate with your instructors directly to troubleshoot academic needs. • Consistent attendance. • Check your scores for classes regularly/ once or twice a week

  7. Short term goals—week 3 • Do any of my short term goals connect with ideas discussedtoday? • What might I do this week to work toward building a strong g.p.a?
