Christians often confused with challenge of living above sin & reality that we sometimes sin due to weakness or ignorance • Romans 6:1,2 “continue in sin?” “NO!” • 1 John 1:8-10 “say have no sin…lie” • 2 Peter 1:3 “all things…life and godliness” • 2 Timothy 3:16,17 “thoroughly equipped for every good work”

  4. Think Wrong About Doing Wrong • King Saul – 1 Samuel 15:3,8,9 • Saul Didn’t Do What God Told Him To Do- He Did Wrong • 1 Samuel 15:15,22 • Many Ignore God’s Instructions and reason that it is all right to do wrong • Suggest fault of someone else! • 1 Samuel 15:21 – God Did Not Accept!

Think Right About Doing Wrong • David – 2 Samuel Chapter 11 – SINNED • 2 Samuel Chapter 12 – God sent Nathan to explain to David that he was wrong • Psalm 51:1-4 • James 5:16 • How? • Saddened by sin, determined serve God faithfully, work toward that end • 2 Peter 1:10 “make call & election sure”

  8. Think Right About Doing Wrong • Everyone has a problem with SIN • Our Thinking about Wrong is Important • Repentance is the Key • “Metonoia”- “after – thought” Change mind, change thinking • Acts 26:20 “repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance.”

Think Right About Doing Wrong • Repentance Is: • A Change of Mind • Produced by Godly Sorrow • Resulting in Reformation of Life • Proverbs 23:7a “as he thinks…so is he” • Isaiah 55:7 “wicked forsake…his thoughts” • 2 Corinthians 7:10 “godly sorrow produces repentance” • Matthew 3:8 “fruit worthy of repentance”
