  3. If you were a bystander in some of these next scenes… what would you do?

  4. Bystander Effect The more people who are present at an event, the less likely it is that anyone will intervene. Why?

  5. Is this some kind of joke? No one else is doing anything

  6. Someone else must be getting help

  7. Why don’t we help? Someone else must be doing it Someone else better able to do something Fear of doing the wrong thing Fear of consequences

  9. Bullying & Bystanders Bullying takes different forms; it is usually repetitive and involves an imbalance of power.

  10. What are the 4 different types of bullying? Physical – Punching, kicking, pushing, slapping, etc. Verbal – Name calling, teasing, threats, etc. Emotional – Exclusion, rumour spreading, etc Cyber – Bullying through social media, texts, email, etc.

  11. Most bullying takes place in front of other people. Why do you think this might be..?

  12. Why don’t people intervene? ‘It might be me next’ ‘It’s only a bit of fun’ ‘They deserve it’ If I ignore it, it might stop

  13. What should bystanders do? See it, get help, stop it. Don’t join in Tell the person to stop, if it is safe to do so. Form a friendship group for the person being bullied to make sure they are not isolated.

  14. Don’t be a BYstander, be an UPstander When an upstander sees or hears about someone being bullied, they speak up. Being an upstander is being a hero: we are standing up for what is right and doing our best to help support and protect someone who is being hurt.

  15. We don’t have to wear a costume to be a hero. Use your #powerforgood.
