  1. Welcome Parents and guardians! Third Grade with Mrs. Evans

  2. Which way is the best way to learn? • Let’s begin with a little activity. • I want you to think about how you learn best. • Is it visually, hands-on, listening or some other way? • Talk with some other parents/guardians to discuss your answers.

  3. Results! • What did you find out about how you learn versus other parents/guardians in the classroom? • Is there only one way to learn? • The answer is no! • There are multiple ways of learning. • We all learn different and so do your children.

  4. Differentiation • Differentiation is planning meaningful activities that best meet the needs of your child. • This means that I will learn which way your child learns best and plan for success. • Students will complete an online survey that will help me assess how they learn. • I will then take this information and plan accordingly. • Students will be placed into three different groups based on survey and pre-assessments. • When your child is placed into a group, it is not set in stone. My groups are flexible and your child can move up or down.

  5. Independent time! • After students have been taught a new skill and pre-assessments have been given, students will participate in Independent Time. • This is when students spend time with the teacher and time independently working on differentiated activities. • Students will rotate every twenty minutes. • Students will have three options during independent time: centers, meet with teacher, and seat work (given by teacher).

  6. Rotation Chart

  7. What will my child be doing during this time? • Students will use computers. • Leveled readers (with teacher). • Tiered assignments. • Smart Board Technology. • Arts integration activities.

  8. Questions? • I am always available for conferences. • You can reach me anytime by phone or e-mail. • 410-222-6469 or jmevans@aacps.org
