  2. John 7:19 Did not Moses give you the law (Torah)? Yet none of you keeps the law.Event + Interpretation = UnderstandingTorah + Pharisees (merit works) = JudaismTorah + Jesus (grace through faith) = ChristianityWhat Jesus and the early church said was that the Pharisees had the correct event, Torah, but the wrong interpretation (works merit).Note: That righteous, in the Torah, is clearly by grace through faith. Gen 15. Hab 2:4. Rom 4. Etc. etc. etc.

  3. Note that as this process of Event+Interpretation is repeated multiple times, the subsequent interpretations may so alter the concepts of the event that the event itself may almost fade from memory, importance and relevance.Illustration: We can see this in that the subsequent court interpretations of the US constitution have essentially obliterated our understanding of the original meaning of the constitution.

  4. The church has greatly fallen from it grace-privilege when we let the self-righteousness of the Pharisees be our interpretive viewpoint of the Old Testament scriptures.

  5. The Pharisaic Objection..to faith and repentance (grace-faith) as a substitute to a merit of works (self-righteousness). The early church consistently rejected this interpretation, while upholding the sacredness of the grace-faith interpretation of the Old Testament

  9. Isaiah 12:1 You will say in that day: "I will give thanks to thee, O LORD, for though thou wast angry with me, thy anger turned away, and thou didst comfort me. 2 "Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation."

  10. Jeremiah 3:12 Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, `Return (repent) , faithless Israel, says the LORD. I will not look on you in anger, for I am merciful, says the LORD; I will not be angry for ever. 13 Only acknowledge your guilt, that you rebelled against the LORD your God and scattered your favors among strangers under every green tree, and that you have not obeyed my voice, says the LORD

  11. Proverbs 28:13 He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses (to God) and forsakes them will obtain mercy.1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  12. Psalm 130:1 <A Song of Ascents.> Out of the depths I cry to thee, O LORD! 2 Lord, hear my voice! Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications! 3 If thou, O LORD, shouldst mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? 4 But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.

  13. Psalm 130:5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; 6 my soul waits for the LORD more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning. 7 O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is plenteous redemption. 8 And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities

  14. Micah 7:18 Who is a God like thee, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance?
