The Children At Mama Orphans Children’s Home. Winnie, John, Hillary, Polycap and Bill are all from the same family. Hillary is 15 years old and in grade 4. John is 12 and Winnie is 10 and they are both in grade 3. Polycap is just starting nursery school. Bill is only 3 and not yet in school.

  1. The Children At Mama Orphans Children’s Home

  2. Winnie, John, Hillary, Polycap and Bill are all from the same family. Hillary is 15 years old and in grade 4. John is 12 and Winnie is 10 and they are both in grade 3. Polycap is just starting nursery school. Bill is only 3 and not yet in school.

  3. Lavender Achieng and her sister Beatrice are 12 and 13 years old. They live with their grandmother during the week and stay at the orphanage over weekends and holidays. Mildred Ndubi and her sister Eunice Daidora moved to the orphanage after it became too difficult for their grandmother to look after them. Both the girls now attend primary school together.

  4. Anacklate Arafat is 7 years old and just starting nursery school. He has been at the home only 4 months as he has only recently lost his mother. Nancy is also 7 years old. She was brought to the home by the principal of the school. Nancy is in nursery school.

  6. Bob Kennedy and Elmadam Mambo are two of the first children who came to the house in 1996. They had been living alone on the streets when they were taken in by Monica. They know very little about their families. Both Bob and Mambo are completing grade ten this year. Bob- 18 years old Mambo –16 years old

  7. Brian and William Amkoa are brothers. They have been living in the orphanage only 4 months. Brian is nine and in grade one and William is six and just beginning nursery school.

  9. Benata Oyaya is from a neighbouring district. She was in the care of their grandmother before coming to the home. Winnie Mandela is 11 years old and in grade 4. She was brought to the home from the church leaders in her village. Winnie has no brothers or sisters.

  10. Winnie and her friends are helping with the corn harvest.

  11. John Ochieng is 15 years old and in grade 5. He has been living the house for 3 years but he is having a very difficult time adjusting. Henry Ochome and Allan Ochieng have been at the house since 1996 when it began. Both boys lost their parents in 1996. They are both attending the local primary school near by.

  12. Pipee Odhiambo and John Mwanda are the youngest children at the orphanage. They are both 3 years old. Little is known about John or Pipee’s family. John and Pipee are not yet in school.

  13. Kennedy Juma and Charles are two of nine brothers. Kennedy’s oldest brother is nineteen but is unable to care for all the boys. Charles is 12 and in grade 2 and Kennedy is 15 and in grade 5.

  14. Maurice Omondi is 12 years old and in grade 2. Joshua Oscar is 11 years old and in grade 4. Josiah was brought to the home by the pastor in his church. Kevin Otieno is 14 years old and in grade 8.

  16. Anna Atieno is five years old. She lives at the orphanage on weekends and stays with her grandmother during the week. Anna has yet to begin school as she has been unwell. Linda Nabwire, Paul Otieno and Fransisca Akinyi are new to the orphanage. They will be attending school in Busia in January.

  17. Richard is Monica´s husband. Together they run this small shop to help raise money to support the orphanage.

  18. This is Monica Oduor. In town people call her Mama Fashion. At home she is just Mama. She started Mama Orphans Children’s Home in 1996 and runs it with her family. All the children are very lucky to have her!
