  1. 5 Steps on How to Help Emergent Leaders in Sports Can Achieve Their Goals Sports can produce the most effective and competent leaders. This is why student-athletes need to become part of a program or a course that is focused on helping them build on their leadership skills and become more confident in achieving their goals, whether they continue to play or pursue other dreams. Here are five ways schools can help theiremergent leaders in sport effectively achieve their goals: 1.Identify the right time –It’s best to start the leadership program with Year 9 and 10 student-athletes aged 15 to 16. Coaches can work on challenging and inspiring new levels of student-athlete performance off and on the field of play. 2.Provide clarity –Teaching and instilling competence, character, confidence, and connectedness in student-athletes will enlighten them on the true meaning of an effective leader in sports. Students should be able to relate the skills they’re developing and how they can influence performance outcomes. Likewise, they should be able to develop positive self-worth and recognise that they can use their education and knowledge to influence others and themselves. At the same time, they are taught to have a sense of self-awareness, become empathetic, and establish and grow positive working relationships with others. 3.Empower coaches and athletic departments – The success of a student leadership program for emergent leaders in sport depends largely on the athletic department’s capability to provide an effective program and learning experience to young athletes. 4.Keep the program aligned with the nationwide curriculum – The student- athlete leadership development program can maximise the learning opportunities of learners if it’s at par to the Australian curriculum. To be effective, it should be delivered in an engaging, fun, and cutting-edge environment, like what e-learning can offer. 5.Get help – Coaches require specialised tools and resources to deliver the program effectively.
