Death of Antinoos • Shoots second arrow at Antinoos’s throat and kills him • “backward and down he went, letting the winecup fall from his shocked hand” (lines 17-18) • Suitors are confused until Odysseus reveals his true identity • They become scared and try to escape but the doors are locked

  3. Trying to Escape • Eurymakhos tried to rally the suitors together to fight back • He hurled at Odysseus and was killed by an arrow • Amphinomos ran after at Odysseus and was killed by Tele-makhos’s spear • Telemakhos fetches swords and spears from the storeroom, but forgets to lock the door on the way out

  4. Battle in the Great Hall • Battle between Odysseus and the suitors emerges • Athena appears as Mentor and doesn’t participate at first but then joins in and the battle ends swiftly • Only the minstrel Phemios and the herald Medon are spared • Leodes the priest is not spared however • “No plea like yours could save you from this hard bed of death” (lines 365- 366)

  5. Cleaning Up • After everyone had died Odysseus called the nurse Eurykleia out and wanted the names of disloyal servants • He had the twelve women bring the corpses to the courtyard and scrub the Great Hall clean and then hanged them • He then “purfied” the Great Hall with fire • He also sent Eurykleia to bring Penelope to the Great Hall
