  2. Deliverables D4.1 Report on common measurement strategy(month 8) D4.2 For all FTIR stations: preliminary historical time series of total column abundances and vertical profiles for CH4 and N2O (month12) Currently daily means for some stations. Will be updated soon (Martine will provide metadata file) D4.3 Assessment report of associated retrieval error budget (month 20, Frank) D4.4. Report on optimized retrieval strategy (month 20, ??) D4.5 For all FTIR stations: revised historical time series of total column abundances and vertical profiles for CH4 and N2O (month 24) D4.6. Preliminary results on the validation of the satellite data with FTIR observations from all sites (month 24) D4.7 For all FTIR stations: time series of total column abundances and vertical profiles for CH4 and N2O, extending to the last year of the project (month 36) D4.8. Validation of the satellite data with FTIR observations from all sites (month 36)

  3. What can be done for a better retrieval • Looking for new microwindows a) Testing window at 4214cm b) Run Alfip to look for more windows (Thorsten) c) Characterisation of microwindows • Evaluate cell measurements for new microwindows • Using HF to calculate stratospheric CH4? Check linear CH4-HF correlation using HALOE data

  4. Strategy for model comparison • Modellers (Michiel, KNMI) provides tools for smoothing the model with the averaging kernels • Comparison of total columns • Comparison of tropospheric CH4: • Sending borders of DOF around and then decide where to set the borders • Go down from top and bottom until DOF=1.0 is reached. • Discuss with modellers.

  5. Strategy for the validation of the satellite measurements • Comparison of XCH4 total columns (incl. avk) • Christian will provide CH4 data (albedo, water column, pressure, temperature, surface elevation) for each station (radius 500km) • HDF5 and tool for ASCII • Validate modelled stratospheric column of CH4 (UFTIR-paper V. Velazco)
