Aims of the project • The aim of the pilot project „Stadtviertelkonzept Nahmobilität“ (Urban quarters mobility concept) was to work out effective, simple and reasonable measures to improve the mobility • on foot • by bike • by inline skates or scooter and • by public transport (especially by bus) • within a broad participatory process.

  7. Status analysis and focus analysis Status analysis of the whole district with 15 plans on all aspects of walking, cycling, skating and going by bus. The most important issues were drawn up in a concentrated focus analysis (4 plans) for every mode of transport.

Elements of participation – Citizen workshops/juries • workshop 1: walking and cycling stakeholders, seniors committee, members of the ward committee, interested citizens • workshop 2: invitation by random selection (700 citizens, 100 answered, 32 accepted) • Charge: Valuation of measures, choice betweenalternatives, prioritization by means of • plenary discussions • discussion in working groups • individual work (proposals for small measures) • The workshops were also attended by members of the city administration and the press

Urban quarters mobility concept – Results • The result was that • 54 % of the proposed measures can be realized • 9 % are still in examination and • 37 % can not be realized. • Up to now many things have already been done. • Very important was the introduction of parking space management and a new bus line. • A lot of other measures were realized such as traffic lights for pedestrians, bike lanes, contra-flow cycling in one way streets, more trees, better street lightings and so on. Many more measures will be realized in the next years.
